Product Overview
This Liu An Gua Pian is harvested before the Grain Rain (Guyu) solar term in spring 2025 from Qitou Mountain in Lu’an, Anhui Province. It is made from single, mature tea leaves with no buds or stems, a unique characteristic among green teas. Through traditional techniques such as “stretch-firing” and “slice-baking,” the leaves are hand-crafted into flat, oval shapes resembling melon seeds, hence the name “Gua Pian.” The dry leaves appear dark green and slightly curled along the edges. The liquor is clear and bright, and the infused leaves are plump and uniform. As one of China’s top ten famous teas, Liu An Gua Pian combines historical prestige with a bold, structured style rare among green teas.
Taste & Aroma
Liu An Gua Pian is known for its rich, uplifting aroma with notes of roasted chestnut and fresh greens. The first sip reveals a full-bodied, silky texture, with a clean vegetal freshness and a brisk, lingering sweetness. The tea maintains a balance between intensity and clarity—brighter than typical roasted teas, yet deeper than many light green teas. The infused leaves display a vivid green tone and elegant form, offering visual pleasure to match the vibrant taste.
Health Benefits
As a non-fermented green tea, Liu An Gua Pian is naturally rich in polyphenols, chlorophyll, and vitamin C. These antioxidants help reduce internal heat, support digestion, and promote hydration. The tea’s single-leaf structure allows a slower, more stable release of flavor and beneficial compounds, making it ideal for extended brewing. Especially suitable for spring and early summer, it helps relieve fatigue, soothe the throat, and sharpen mental clarity—perfect for office workers, frequent speakers, or anyone seeking daily wellness through tea.
Brewing Guide
Due to the density and thickness of its leaves, Liu An Gua Pian performs best in a tall glass that highlights its shape and allows aroma to develop fully. Recommended method:
- Tea-to-Water Ratio: Use 3g of tea per 150ml (5 oz) of water
- Water Temperature: 85°C to 90°C (185–194°F) to fully unlock the flavor and fragrance
-
Brewing Method:
- Pour water first, then add tea leaves to avoid scalding
- Let steep for about 60 seconds in the first infusion; gently swirl to aid leaf expansion
- Extend steeping time by 10–15 seconds for each subsequent brew
- Re-steeping: Suitable for 3 to 4 infusions, with consistent flavor throughout
- Recommended Vessels: A tall glass or white porcelain gaiwan to appreciate the graceful movement of the leaves
