Product Overview
This Phoenix Dan Cong (Single Bush) oolong tea is a fresh harvest from 2025, sourced from the high-altitude tea gardens of Phoenix Mountain in Chaozhou, Guangdong Province, China. Grown in misty, ecologically rich conditions, the tea is crafted from ancient single-trunk tea trees using traditional charcoal-roasting techniques. The dry leaves are tightly twisted, dark brown with golden tips, exuding a natural vitality. Known for the principle of “one bush, one flavor,” Dan Cong is revered for its aromatic complexity and varietal expression—making it a hallmark of Lingnan oolong teas.
Taste & Aroma
Phoenix Dan Cong is celebrated for its striking and layered aromas, which vary by cultivar—from floral and fruity to honeyed and woody. This particular variety showcases the signature Mi Lan Xiang (Honey Orchid Aroma). The tea opens with an intoxicating bouquet of orchid and sweet honey, followed by a silky-smooth liquor that coats the mouth. It offers a delicate sweetness, bright minerality, and long-lasting returning fragrance (hui gan) that seems to rise from the throat. The liquor is a luminous honey-yellow, and the infused leaves are evenly spread and supple—yielding an elegant, high-fragrance yet grounded tasting experience.
Health Benefits
As a lightly oxidized and gently roasted oolong tea, Phoenix Dan Cong is rich in aromatic compounds, flavonoids, polyphenols, and amino acids. It combines the wellness benefits of both green and roasted oolongs. The fragrance is known to calm the mind and uplift the mood, while the tea’s composition aids in soothing the throat, promoting digestion, and balancing fat metabolism. With regular consumption, it may help freshen breath, relieve greasiness after heavy meals, and support skin vitality. It is an ideal choice for those who value both aroma and daily wellness.
Brewing Guide
Phoenix Dan Cong is known for its powerful aroma and smooth mouthfeel. A high-temperature, fast-infusion method is recommended to capture its expressive fragrance and layered taste. Suggested brewing guidelines:
- Tea-to-Water Ratio: 8g of tea per 150ml (5 oz) of water
- Water Temperature: 95–100°C (203–212°F)
-
Brewing Method:
- Use a porcelain gaiwan or traditional Chaozhou gongfu tea set; preheat the vessel before adding the tea
- Rinse the leaves quickly if desired; for the first infusion, steep for 8–10 seconds, increasing time gradually with each brew
- Use a quick-pour technique to avoid over-extraction and preserve fragrance
- Re-steeping: Capable of 8+ infusions, with evolving aromas and flavors
- Recommended Vessels: Gaiwan for a clean, nuanced aroma; small Chaozhou teapots for rapid, expressive brewing—both ideal for showcasing Dan Cong’s character
